Meet the Team at Greenwood Dental

At Greenwood Dental Surgery, we don’t have a fancy mission statement. Instead, we focus our attention on providing families with high-quality dental care at an affordable price. We’ve been a fixture in the community for 40 years, and people have come to rely on us for general and restorative dentistry, including implants, crowns and bridges.

We cater to families by providing a welcoming, comfortable environment for all ages, with a spacious play area to help kids enjoy their time here even more. With evening and Saturday hours, we do our best to accommodate your busy schedule.

Helping the Community Achieve Optimal Oral Health

Our principal dentist, Dr Joshua Vowles, took over the practice in 2012. Then, in 2019, we moved to our current location: a community-focused area filled with hard-working families. We aim to build relationships with our patients and encourage them to get regular dental check-ups. We strive to help everyone we treat come to a point where they have the best smile and oral health they can get – and then maintain that for the rest of their lives.

The dental team at Greenwood Dental Surgery takes the time to answer your questions and provide the education and information you need to make an informed decision regarding treatment options and understand how you can take the best care of your teeth.

Making Care Accessible and Affordable

We have an unwavering commitment to providing affordable care for families, including offering various payment options for qualified individuals. We are a preferred provider with Medibank, HCF, and CBHS. We also accept care plans from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and work with children covered by the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. For eligible patients, we accept the Western Australia Dental Health Care Scheme for adults, covering up to 75% of approved dental services.

Our new patient price of $190 (no gap) includes your checkup, X-rays, scale and clean, and fluoride treatment. We also offer HICAPS on-the-spot processing of claims.

Dr Joshua Vowles

Dr Joshua Vowles

From Teacher to Dentist

Dr Josh began his career as a high school teacher, specialising in math, science, and chemistry. While he enjoyed teaching, he realised after five years that it wasn’t the long-term path he envisioned.

Dentistry wasn’t initially on his radar until a relative suggested it might be a good fit. The idea clicked, and Dr Josh soon discovered that dentistry offered the hands-on, mentally stimulating work he craved.

“I also enjoy helping people, and many aspects of being a dentist appealed to me, especially the opportunity to be my own boss.”

Dental Education & Professional Development

Being a “mature age” student with family and financial commitments made dental school challenging for Dr Josh, but his desire to create his own practice motivated him. In 2007, he graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Dental Science, and by 2012, he had achieved his dream of owning Greenwood Dental Surgery.

One standout passion in Dr Josh’s dental journey is his keen interest in implants. He earned a Graduate Diploma in Dental Implantology (2022), completing a two-year postgraduate diploma covering all aspects of implant dentistry. His dedication to providing comprehensive care to his patients extends to clear aligner orthodontics (such as Invisalign® and TrioClear) and dental sleep medicine to help patients with snoring and sleep apnoea.

Helping Patients Find Relief

Dr Josh enjoys working with a close-knit team and helping patients improve their oral health. He also likes helping people eat better, get out of pain, and improve the appearance of their teeth.

“I enjoy the technical challenge of refining my skills to get the best outcome possible.”

Dr Josh also values the communication side of his work, ensuring patients fully understand their treatment options and what to expect.

Enjoying Family Time

When he’s not at the practice, Dr Josh enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. His hobbies include cooking, playing guitar, watching movies, hiking, gardening, and dining out.
